Properties of Phoscrete
Phoscrete is a high early strength MALP Concrete that chemically bonds to host concrete, dissolves rust, resists chloride attack and resists cracking even under severe conditions. Not only will you get your structure back in service fast, Phoscrete fixes it once and for good! Click on links at left to learn more.

Important things to know when working with Phoscrete
Most important is to never use water when mixing or placing Phoscrete. Always mix in proper proportions of Liquid Activator to Dry Mix. Use recommended mixing and placing tools. Wear proper safety equipment.

Safety Equipment
Review the complete MSDS for both Dry Mixes and Activator on the left navigation Data Sheet link. Phoscrete Dry Mix contains silicas and powders. Phoscrete Liquid Activator is a low-odor Phosphoric Acid based solution. When mixing Phoscrete, wear a dust mask, protective gloves and eye protection. If you are working with Phoscrete Shot-Gun, wear a face shield, gloves and a proper respirator. When placing and finishing Phoscrete, wear gloves. Have an eye wash station handy. Wash your hands after working with Phoscrete.

Site Preparation
Remove all loose and damaged concrete from the repair area. Remove all non-cementitious previously used repair materials. Remove exposed rust with a wire brush or by sandblasting. For horizontal repairs, insure at least a one inch [1"] edge around the repair (do not leave a feather edge). Blow out any remaining dust or standing water from the repair area prior to placing Phoscrete. Use bond breaking materials such as plastic or blue board to prevent Phoscrete from bonding across expansion joints. Use non-stick canola oil cooking spray for easy form removal.

Mixing Instructions
Small quantities of Phoscrete are best mixed in a bucket, mortar box, or using a single-unit mixer. Larger quantites are best mixed using a multiple unit paddle-type mortar mixer. Refer to the Partial Unit Liquid Measurement Chart for the proper amount of Liquid needed to mix less than full unit quantities of Phoscrete. The Phoscrete Mixing Auger is an excellent tool for mixing Phoscrete. Pour the proper measure of Phoscrete Liquid Activator in a clean bucket first and then add Dry Mix and Admixes to insure all dry material is properly wetted out. Use Phoscrete Fast-Set Admix to speed-up working time in cold climates. Chill Phoscrete Activator on ice in a cooler to extend working time in hot climates. Mix approximately 1 minute until Phoscrete is completely wetted (Four-Seasons) out begins to fold over on itself (VO-Plus) prior to placement. After dumping from the mortar mixer, add the next dose of Phoscrete Liquid Activator and allow the mixer to spin in order to keep remaining material from setting up. Clean mixer and buckets with water when done.

Placing and Finishing Phoscrete
Plan on about 5-15 minutes (ambient temperature dependent) to place and finish Phoscrete once mixed. If Phoscrete begins setting up in the bucket, better to discard the mix. If you are mixing in a mortar mixer, use plywood to direct the material where desired to minimize moving the material with a shovel.  On inclines, start at the bottom of the slope and work your way up. When working on an incline greater than 30 degrees, use a vibrating trowel for the best bond. Finish using standard concrete floats and trowels. Do not use water when finishing Phoscrete. Once the surface of the placed material starts to develop a "skin," stop finishing. In-between batches, clean tools with Phoscrete Activator. When the job is completed, clean tools with water.
